The park and leisure home industry has been looking long and hard at its eco-credentials, and many manufacturers are looking at their manufacturing and procurement processes to reduce their carbon footprint.
As our recent ‘Come Shopping With Us’ feature shows, eco values at Prestige are at the forefront of our procurement practice, but we are also determined that sustainability shouldn’t come at a price to our customers.
We all know that saying ‘a dog isn’t just for Christmas’ but, in a way, a similar concept applies to eco-values too. Long after the current fashion has been and gone for broadcasting eco-values, here at Prestige we are in it for the long haul and always have been, with an ethos of continuous improvement that extends to our environmentally friendly practices.
Of course, it’s not just us who believes in this – we know that it’s important to many of our customers too, which is why many of the component parts in our homes ensure that they are economical to heat and run, and easy on the pocket and environment long after they have left our factory.
People are at the heart of our business. Our skilled workforce takes pride in what they produce, and as new generations of apprentices join us, we want to ensure that they also take that same ownership and pride in their work, our products and environmental goals. With younger generations being more and more aware of the effects of global warning and the urgency to ‘put the brakes on’ to slow it down across the globe, we all need to do what we can to play our part.
“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors. We borrow it from our children.” – Native American Proverb
It's not just about being seen to be green though. As our world leaders are out at COP22 putting their first global stocktake of resources together to power up the fight against global warming, we all need to do the same where we can.
In the past 100 years CO2 and other greenhouse emissions are said to have made the Earth’s temperature to rise by 1.9°F, and heatwaves are 30 times more likely to occur, along with other extreme weather conditions such as flooding.
We are creating homes and lodges with a very real connection to the earth and its landscapes thanks to the park surroundings they will be heading for. Just as forests are the lungs of the earth purifying the air, we are all connected to the seas, lakes and waterways around us, and totally dependent on them. That’s exactly why we are determined to do all we can to ensure we have been part of making things better, not worse. We have such a strong connection to our homes and their end destinations, that we want to do all we can to help preserve what we have been able to enjoy ourselves, for generations to come.
“We are the first generation to feel the sting of climate change, and we are the last generation that can do something about it.” – Jay Inslee
Our challenge to you:
We all know some of the easy things we can do to help the environment, such as recycling, reusable straws and cups, and switching to EV vehicles if your budget allows. The pandemic also reminded us how to reduce food waste, avoid making unnecessary fuel-guzzling journeys and we’re all a bit more mindful of waste thanks to the rising cost of living. But how often do we take a moment to look online to look for more things we could easily do? If we all do that intermittently and pass on ideas to others, we could make a significant difference!
Here are a few quick reading resources to get you started – if there’s ever a good time and excuse to do a little scrolling over a cuppa, it’s now!
